Matthew Chatfield is with us today to give a talk entitled "Loving your Local Countryside" - an overview of Gift to Nature, the Isle of Wight's local Countryside charity of which he is the manager.

We are delighted to welcome Donna Newnham whose visit in June had to be cancelled. Donna's talk is entitled "Around the Island in 100+ Churches."
MONDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Today's meeting promises to be very colourful, interesting and entertaining! Andrew Jenner from Covent Garden Opera House is with us and will give a presentation on "Costumes in Theatre."

MONDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Our speaker today is Sheila Caws whose talk is entitled "Queen Victoria, Grandmother of Europe." Sheila will explain how, before World War 1, so many of Queen Victoria's children and grandchildren became monarchs or consorts of European countries.
MONDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Veronica Robbins, our speaker was the United Kingdom Receiver of Wrecks from 1993 until her retirement in December 2001. Her work involved dealing with offshore wreck and salvage and was enormously varied. To quote Veronica, "From Islamic gold to lost fishing nets, from salvage disputes to live munitions or beached sperm whales, I never knew what I would be dealing with next!"

We are pleased to welcome again Elizabeth Hutchings who visited us in March, when we heard about her earlier life. She continues her story today with a talk entitled "To the Antipodes in 1950, two bicycles and 4 boats."

We are delighted to have a Group member as our speaker. Joan Cook is going to talk on "A Northern Childhood."
MONDAY 31ST OCTOBER 2016 PAVILION
Rosemary Cooper, who gave us a most interesting talk on sand pictures earlier in the year, is our speaker. She is going to talk on "Fiction, Fashion and Family Values: a Victorian Woman's Weekly Magazine."
MONDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2016 PAVILION
The 13th anniversary of Isle of Wight Interest Group. Tim Wander is our speaker and his subject is "Marconi on the Isle of Wight."
MONDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Our AGM. Following the business side of our meeting, Alan Marriott, editor of the County Press, will be with us and will talk and answer questions on "The Isle of Wight Bible."
MONDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Today we learn about the activities of the Solent Protection Society. Their Chairman, Bill Pimlott is the speaker.
MONDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Another interesting talk by a group member. In a talk entitled "An Exile from the Isle of Wight", Rosemary Matthews will tell us about the time she and her family lived in Kenya.
MONDAY 5TH DECEMBER 2016 PAVILION
Our speaker today is Mike Greenwood. We have already enjoyed hearing about Mike's experience in Borneo and Nepal. Earlier this year, he spent some time working in Thailand, and it is about this that we hear today.
MONDAY 12TH DECEMBER 2016 PAVILION
The Isle of Wight Interest Group now has a membership of over 100.
We are a friendly, enthusiastic and active group of men and ladies keen and curious to learn anything and everything based essentially on the Isle of Wight and environs.
We hold weekly Monday afternoon meetings from September to July, with interesting and varied speakers, mainly Island-based, plus occasional visits, group meals and an annual coach trip to the Mainland.
Our venue at the Pavilion, Watery Lane, Newchurch is conveniently located for Islandwide membership.
We meet most Mondays 1.45-4pm and a small charge is made to cover costs including refreshments.A programme of events/speakers is available on request.
Lifelong membership is just £1.00!
New members are most welcome.
